Martha Blanche Sidonie

Martha is an illustrator and ceramicist based in East Yorkshire, she makes tactile works, hand built with British clays using ancient coiling and pinching techniques. Martha’s illustrations often spring from simple pleasures such as watching migrating birds or a patient dog, and regularly delve into tales of her Icelandic ancestors sailing on frozen, Northern seas. These illustrations are then drawn and fired onto unique one-off vases and homewares to bring something special to the everyday. Each piece is built slowly in Martha’s garden studio, with fingerprints and coil shadows left lightly visible on the surface to celebrate the traditional making process and the imperfect nature of working with clay.
