Abbie La Rooy

Abbie La Rooy employs traditional ceramic techniques and classical surfaces to create unique and unexpected outcomes. Each object is thrown on the wheel, then pulled and altered. The pieces are allowed to twist and warp during the drying and firing, giving each a distinct character. Glaze or terra sigillata (made from local clay) is then applied to the surfaces.

Each candlestick is thrown on the wheel, then flipped upside down and pulled (traditional handle making technique) making each unique with a distinct character. The candlesticks are then left upside down to dry until they are stiff enough to hold their shape.
